Where to Find the Most Spectacular City & Sea Views
The City Beach of Cagliari – Il Poetto
Il Poetto is Cagliari’s long city beach, stretching for several kilometers towards Quartu Sant’Elena. From the promenade, you have a wide view of the turquoise sea, Cape Sant’Elia, and on clear days, even to the mountains in the hinterland. Ideal for sunrises, walks, and an aperitivo with a sea view.
Bastione di Saint Remy
The Bastione di Saint Remy is one of Cagliari’s most famous viewing terraces and connects the lower town with the Castello district. From here, you can see the rooftops of the old town, the harbor, the marina, and all the way to Poetto. The view is particularly impressive at sunset, when the city is bathed in warm light.
Terrazza Umberto I
Terrazza Umberto I is located on the Castello bastions, very close to the Bastione di Saint Remy. It offers a slightly quieter but equally wide panoramic view over the harbor, the marina district, and Poetto. With its balustrades, benches, and historic ambiance, it’s a perfect spot for a short break with a view.
Torre dell’Elefante
The Torre dell’Elefante is a medieval defensive tower and one of Cagliari’s landmarks. From its upper platform (when open), you have a spectacular view over the Castello district, the old town rooftops, and the harbor. Even from the base of the tower, the view into the narrow alleys and onto the historic walls is worth it.
Monte Urpinu
Monte Urpinu is a wooded hill with a park area just outside the city center and offers one of the most comprehensive views of Cagliari. From its viewpoints, you can see the entire city, the salt flats with flamingos, Poetto Beach, and the surrounding hills. The view is especially beautiful in the late afternoon.
Cape Sant’Elia
Cape Sant’Elia is the rocky headland marking the Gulf of Cagliari and offers dramatic views of the sea, cliffs, and Poetto. Along its paths and viewpoints, you can gaze into the coves and, in good weather, see far along the coast. It’s a great spot for photos and short hikes in wilder nature, right on the city’s doorstep.
